Janet Marie Pierce, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center on Friday, January 24, 2014, due to complications of congestive heart failure. Janet was born in New Hampton, Iowa, on May 19th, 1943, to Russell and Marie McAloon. On September 26, 1964, she and James Pierce were married at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph the Workman. Together, they owned and operated Jim Pierce Plumbing and Heating for over 36 years. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, brother Alan Mc Aloon; in-laws Norman and Charlotte Pierce, brother-in-law Kenneth Pierce, and beloved son David. Janet will be remembered as an incredibly strong, caring woman, who always placed her familys needs above her own. If you needed her, she was there. Her family was blessed to have her and her friends were richer for having known her. Janet is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim; daughters Sherry (John) Gillies of La Crosse, Kathleen (Kent) Jeffery of Wabasha, MN; daughter-in-law Pennie (Mike) Jorgenson of La Crosse; and cherished grandchildren Abby; Hannah; Lea; Benjamin; Ian and Ava. She is further survived by her twin sister Joyce (Joe) London of Roseville, MN; and sisters Mary (Bill) Downing; and Jane (Darrell) Ferch both of Charles City, IA; a sister-in-law Patricia Pierce, along with numerous special nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29th, at St. James the Less Catholic Church, La Crosse. Rev. Robert A. Schaller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, La Crosse, and also one hour prior to servicesWednesday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to any of the following: Boys and Girls Club of Greater La Crosse, Logan High School- Pierce Family Memorial Scholarship Fund; or Saint James Catholic Church. Those we love dont go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.
