Helen R. Marson, 85, of La Crosse, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Bethany-Riverside Nursing Home. Helen was born in Viroqua, Wis., on October 14, 1928, to Charles R. and Gertha E. (Prindle) Zink. She married Kenneth R. Marson on September 1, 1951, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. They made their home on Indian Hill on the northside of La Crosse, a neighborhood and life that Helen loved. Ken preceded her in death on December 31, 2007. Helen worked at Northern Engraving in La Crosse for several years. She then worked as a cook at the Cartwright Center at UW-L, Ardies Restaurant, the Fishermans Diner, and at the snack counter at Belscot.

In her free time, she volunteered as a voter registration clerk, and also at Gifted Hands and Mobile Meals. She also loved to knit, crochet and quilt, and enjoyed playing cards, her favorite game being Skip-Bo.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Joan (Greg) Dieckman of Sparta, Wis.; two sons, Steve (Nona) Marson of Holmen and Jeff (Jan) Marson of Onalaska; six grandchildren, Josh (Kelly) Dieckman, Ryan Marson, Adam Marson, Kevin (Meghan) Marson, Abby (Luke) Hansen, and Noah (Ashly) Dieckman; andnine great grandchildren, Ethan, Beau, Laynee, Macee, Chase, Cruze,Brody, Jameson and Jackson. She is also survived by a brother, Eugene (Rita) Zink of Milton, Wis.; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Helen was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lurene Cole; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 14th, at 10:30 a.m., at St. James the Less Catholic Church in La Crosse. Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate. Entombment will take place in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Bethany-Riverside Nursing Home or St. James the Less Catholic Church.
