Carl L Stellner

d. February 16, 2014

Carl L. Stellner - Carl Ludwig Stellner Carl Ludwig Stellner, passed away on February 16, 2014, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse. He was born on June 27, 1920 to Charles Stellner and Bertha Bay Stellner in Stoddard, Wisconsin.

As a young man Carl went away to Concordia High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. When his father passed away Carl returned to Stoddard to help support the family. Carl enlisted in the Navy in World War II and served in American Samoa in the South Pacific as an Electrician's Mate, First Class. After the war Carl became partners with his brother Oscar in the Stellner Electric and Plumbing Company. They worked together until Oscar retired in 1972 and then Carl ran the business until he retired in 1979. Carl was a founding member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stoddard and also served as village treasurer for many years. Carl married Doris Esther Ristow on May 15, 1948. They lived in Stoddard until 1989 when they moved to LaCrosse where apartment living freed them from snow shoveling and grass mowing, allowing more time to enjoy life. He and Doris were blessed with two children, James and Jean. Carl taught his son, Jim the electric and plumbing trades and helped him many projects over the years.

Carl and Doris enjoyed traveling and went on several cruises and many bus tours throughout the country and in the Caribbean. Carl loved their monthly card parties with friendsplaying euchre and 500 with gusto. Carl never turned down an opportunity to get out on the Mississippi River, with the whole family on the LaCrosse Queen or with Jean and Terry for birthday celebrations. He enjoyed pontoon boat rides on Lake Onalaska with his friends and the staff at the Willows.

In the early 80's Carl and Doris had two grandsons, Matt and Joe, who they loved to visit. When their grandsons visited Stoddard there were fun days fishing with grandpa and exploring the Mississippi River parks and local bluffs around the area.

Carl is survived by his son, James Stellner (Michelle Crean Stellner) of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter, Jean (Terry) Glanzman of Mondovi, Wisconsin; grandsons Matthew Stellner (Erica Esser) of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Joseph Stellner (Stacie Jansen) of Des Plaines, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

Carl was the last surviving sibling in his generation of the Stellner family. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty five years, Doris Ristow Stellner, brother, Oscar (Tillie) Stellner, and sisters, Edna (Harry) Krause, Emma (Earl) Hoeth and Ruth Beitlich.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Bethany Willows and Bethany Riverside for their kindness over the past years and to also thank the nursing and palliative care staff at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital for the compassionate care they provided at the end of his life.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A private internment service will be held prior to the funeral.
