Elsie Margaret Peterson, 98, formerly of La Crosse, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Hospice of the Valley in Peoria, AZ. Elsie was born on February 5, 1916 in Tarr Valley, Monroe County, Wisconsin to Emil and Augusta (Schuette) Zimmerman. Elsie lived in Tomah, then moved to La Crosse where she ran the Q-Lunch in the Burlington Northern Train Depot for 37 years. She then volunteered at the Lutheran Hospital gift shop for 8 years and the Gifted Hands for over 20 years. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Karl Bernhoeft, second husband Arnold Pete Peterson, daughter Karla (Bernhoeft) Coaty, three sisters Frieda Draak, Hildegarth Zimmerman and Hertha Gruen, six brothers William, Max, Ben, Otto, August and an infant brother. Elsie is survived by three grandchildren Lisa Turner, Joseph Coaty and Heather (Pasquale) Bellacero, five great grandchildren Jeffrey and Benjamin Stumpf, Elsie and Maxwell Gran and Patrick Bellacero, one great- great grandson Prestyn Stumpf, son-in-law Walter Coaty, brother Fritz (Dorothy) Zimmerman, seven nieces Margaret Draak, Carol Barney, Ruth Wettstein, Donna Nesler, Sheila Robertson, Patti Zimmerman and Linda Wickware, one nephew John Zimmerman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Schumacher Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Pastor David Leistekow will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 AM until the time of service.
