Merwin E. Mellor 87, of Onalaska passed away at Gundersen Health Thursday, February 27, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born in Madison, WI on September 1, 1926 to Everett and Gertrude (Krug) Mellor. He married Nancy Podell in 1951 and later divorced. He married Janice (Chesney) Bluske October 28, 1972.
Mert graduated from Madison East High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in 1953 he graduated from UW Madison Law School. His career began at General Electric in upstate New York, followed by ten years in the FBI in numerous locations. He left the FBI for private law practice in New Holstein and La Crosse, WI until his retirement. During his retirement he worked as a bailiff for La Crosse County. Mert participated in many sports and was a life-long golfer. In addition he was an avid sports fan, attending many Green Bay Packer games throughout the years. He is survived by his wife Janice, four children, Jane (Pete) Mellor McGee of Branford, CT, Jim (Joan) Mellor of Mendota Heights, MN, Joel (Kathy) Mellor of Cashton, WI, and Julie Mellor Riggins of Houston, TX, six step-children, Jeff (Angie) Bluske of Onalaska, Steve Bluske of La Crosse, Bob (Kathy) Bluske of Sheboygan, WI, Jyl (Jon) Neis of Hillsborough, CA, Dave Bluske of Jordan, MN and Julie (Vinnie) Johnson of Boulder Creek, CA, 29 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-daughter Jayne, and a step-son Daniel. Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of Onalaska. Pastor William Bader will officiate. Committal services will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
