Joseph Anthony Joe Havlik, age 85, died February 25, 2014, at Hillview Health Care Center. He was born December 1, 1928, in La Crosse, to Joseph F and Marie M (Fischer) Havlik. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1946, and Loras College, Dubuque, IA, in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. He was a Sergeant in the US Army from September 1952 to 1954, serving in the Survey Section, and as a Survey Chief in Korea from November 1953 until July 1954 when honorably discharged. On September 15, 1956 he married Marian Elizabeth Glasheen in Sparta, WI.

He is survived by his wife, Marian, and five children: Joseph A.(Thu Thuy) Havlik Jr, Marietta, GA, Rosemarie (James) Hoff, Denise (David) Havlik-Jensen La Crosse, Michael Havlik, Stoddard, WI, and John (Debra) Havlik, Alachua, FL, 11 grandchildren: Stephanie, Alexandra, and Victoria Havlik, Danielle Hoff, Ashley (Adam) Niemuth, Nicolette (Erik) Eichstadt, Olivia, and Jamison Hoff, Meghan (Grant) Wall, Hans (Shara) and Dhruva Havlik, one great grandchild and a brother Jerome (Mary) of La Crosse. He is also survived by cousins, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

Joe worked for the Social Security Administration from 1955 to 1984. He served on the School Board of Cathedral School. He was devoted to his family and grandchildren. He loved to read, share his knowledge, travel and spending time with his family and friends. In May 2012, Joe went on the Freedom Honor Flight to Washington DC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Roncalli Newman Center. Rev. James Kurzynski will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Roncalli Newman Center, Hillview Healthcare Center or the La Crosse Public Library.
