Van L Johnson

Van L. Johnson Jr., 66, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born on October 28, 1947 in Mounds, IL to Van L. and Clotee (Mathis) Johnson Sr. Van had worked at the La Crosse Center and UW-La Crosse for many years. He was a member of the Social Action Theatre at UW-La Crosse, and the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52. Van enjoyed watching sports and playing with his grandkids.

He is survived by five children, Janice Johnson-Pratt, Van Johnson III, Van Schwartz, Petra Jacobson, and Taylor Johnson, two step-sons, Tyronne Schwartz and Terrill Schwartz, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nine sisters, Susie Johnson, Charlene Johnson, Darlene Johnson, Ethel Purdiman, Rita Johnson, Lorraine Woods, Clotee Ward, Victoria Reynolds, and Jacqueline Johnson, two brothers, Thetis Johnson and Calvin Johnson, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Vanita Johnson, and two brothers, Darrell Johnson and Fred Lee.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Avenue So. Pastor Mark Clements will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the time of services.
