Ruth Frances Chlup, 73 of La Crosse died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center. She was born December 30, 1940 in La Crosse to Frank and Hazel (Powers) Theisen. Ruth contracted polio at the age of 4 and due to that illness was confined to a wheelchair. Prior to attending her freshman year at Aquinas, she attended Emerson Elementary School. Ruth later moved to Milwaukee to finish high school at a school for polio survivors, graduating in 1961. While living in Milwaukee, Ruth lived with Anita and Bud Lamprech and family. Ruth married Bernard Chlup on September 3, 1966 in her hospital room at St. Francis Hospital while recovering from two broken legs due to a car accident. Later she became a mother to daughter Rita in 1969. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Rita (Andrew) Pralle of Richmond, MN; two grandchildren, Tylor Pralle of Sauk Rapids, MN and Amanda Pralle of Monticello, MN; a brother, Paul (Lorraine) Theisen, three sisters, Virginia Brenegen, Joan Yerian and Marian (Bob) Keenan, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bernie; brother, Eugene and a sister, Elizabeth. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 22thndth at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Onalaska with Monsignor Steven Kachel officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
