Paul O. Pfaff - Paul O. Pfaff, 95, of West Salem and formerly of La Crosse, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

He was born on the family farmstead in rural Mindoro, Wis., on November 10, 1918, to William and Helen (Storandt) Pfaff. He married the former Irene Kolb on September 3, 1949 at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Irene preceded him in death in 2012.

Paul was a 1936 graduate of Mindoro High School and graduated from Wisconsin Business University in 1938. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving as a 1thstth Sergeant with the Cannon Company of the 263thrdth Infantry Regiment, 66th Black Panther Division. He was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 and Thomas Rooney V.F.W. Post 1530 of La Crosse.

Paul worked as an accountant for several area car dealerships including, Newburg Motor Co., Bob Burg Oldsmobile/Cadillac, Kennard Buick, and retired from Walt Hammond Buick. He also served as a tax preparer and accountant to many small businesses in the La Crosse area. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and he and Irene also enjoyed traveling across the country together.

Paul is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (John) Purcell of Oakdale, Minn.; a son, Randy (Gladys) Pfaff of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren, Lisa Purcell of Salt Lake City, Utah, Megan (Michael) Rafferty of Minneapolis, Minn., Ryan Purcell of Cape Town, South Africa, and Stephanie, Victoria and Joshua Pfaff of Katy, Texas; two great grandsons, Liam and Kyle Rafferty; one sister-in-law, Helen Genz of La Crosse; one brother-in-law, Norman Johns of Roseville, Minn., and nine nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Irene, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Renee, in 1975; a brother, Dewett; and sisters, Juanita (Lloyd) Fisher and Ruth (Ray) Rice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 30th, at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Rev. Richard Pamperin will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pauls family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for their wonderful care.
