Helen Viola Alden, 79, of La Crosse, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Onalaska Care Center. She was born in rural Viroqua, Wis., on December 15, 1934, to Henry and Minnie (Helgerson) Jacobson. She married John L. Alden on May 4, 1952, in Viroqua. Helen worked in food service for many years as the head cook at Culps Supper Club and as a deli cook and salad preparer at Skogens IGA. In her free time, Helen loved family get-togethers, any kind of card game, and her morning coffee klatches with her good friend, Judy. She also enjoyed fishing, and Packer and Brewer games. She is survived by her husband, John; three sons, Alan (Sandy) Alden of Mosinee, Wis., Gary (Karren) Alden of Briggsville, Wis., and Curt (Joan) of Portage, Wis.; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Helen is further survived by a brother, Henry (Janet) Jacobson, Jr. of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Marcelene (Kenneth) Hartley of Beloit, Wis.; sister-in-law, Lucille Jacobson of Viroqua; nieces and nephews; and many good friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Jacobson. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 1thstth, at 12:30 p.m., at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 907 Sand Lake Road, in Onalaska. Rev. Tom Meyer will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A reception will follow the service at Fox Hollow Banquet Hall.
