Megan W. Thorstad, 91, of La Crosse, died on Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She was born on October 11, 1922 in Muscada, WI to William and Sarah (Thomas) Williams.
She is survived by a daughter Carlene (Cameron) Roberts of La Crosse, a son David Thorstad of Federal Way, WA, three grandchildren, Rhys (Kari) Roberts, Aaron (Adrienne) Roberts and Ethan (Jocelyn) Roberts, and three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Paige and Ellie. She treasured her four-generation family beyond measure and was so grateful for each opportunity to be together. She was preceded in death by her husband Carlton.
Megan dedicated her life to serving others. Listening without judgment and responding with compassion were valued during her years as office manager at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Madison. As a volunteer reader in LaCrosse elementary schools she helped children learn to love reading and helped them acquire new books, or sometimes first books, for their home.
Anyone who received written correspondence from Megan is familiar with her signature phrase Love is Boundless. These are words she lived by every day. She celebrated this boundlessness through music and, as a Welshwoman to her very heart, enjoyed singing tremendously. She provided an instrument for a student with great musical potential. She displayed her own boundless love through patience, attentiveness, and kindness, building relationships everywhere she went. On the morning of the stroke which eventually took her life, she spent time delivering mobile meals with her daughter, Carlene, to elderly people in our community, some of whom were over a decade younger than herself.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 5:00 PM at First Congregational Church. Pastors Bill and Laura Hoglund will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 4:00 PM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to First Congregational Church or Habitat for Humanity. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
