John William U'Ren of Hokah, 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on May 10, 2014. John's life was filled with the joys of faith, family, friendship, and love. He was born to Bob and Inez U'Ren in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, in 1950. From a very early age, John shared his gift of humor and outgoing personality with others. Growing up with his sisters in Mineral Point and Cassville, he was known throughout town for his love of cars and adventurous approach to life. Johns ability to brighten a room and always see the positive in life was a gift to all he met. His genuine connection with others led to many lasting friendships.

John had a long and successful career as a buyer and inventory planner for Alliant Energy. Prior to his work in the power industry, John tended bar at his parents tavern and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. His passion in life was to serve others which he exemplified through volunteerism and giving. John was always there to lend a helping hand to neighbors through community organizations and his church.

John was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Family was his priority. His grandchildren will forever treasure building things together and his many pranks. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Nodorft U'Ren, daughters Michelle (Lloyd) Allen of St. Joseph, Michigan, Candace (Howard) Hatch of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Kathryn (Michael) Wasko of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, Tracy (Jeff) Ace of Monticello, Wisconsin; sisters Sandy Carey and Susan (Steve) Kirschbaum; ten grandchildren Brittany, Austin, Jeffrey, Wyatt, Garrett, Owen, Devin, Kade, Cody, Adam; his great-grandson, Jionni; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets. His death reunites him with loved ones including his first wife, Lynette, his parents John and Inez U'Ren, brother-in-law Ray Carey, and nephew Jay Carey.

A celebration of life memorial service and Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th, at the Church of the Crucifixion, La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Friends and family are invited to visit from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14th at Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, La Crescent, or Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Crucifixion Church in La Crescent. To honor Johns commitment to giving, memorials to the American Cancer Society, Humane Society, Lions Club, or a charity of your choice are requested in lieu of flowers.
