Carol J. SpeichCarol J. Speich, 80, of La Crescent, MN passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 in her home. She was born on June 6, 1933 in Massillon, OH to Virgil E. and Grace M. (Rose) Rossett. She graduated from Bowling Green State University Bowling Green, OH in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. On September 7, 1957 she married Carl Speich in Massillon, OH. Carol had worked for Metro Sports as a bookkeeper for 20 years. From 1979-1981 she was president of Riverland Girl Scouts Council. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines chorus and quartet. She was active in both La Crescent UMC and Wesley UMC, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. She helped start the Meals on Wheels Program in La Crescent. Together she and Carl loved traveling, especially taking cruises and bus trips. She is survived by her husband Carl, children David (Jackie) Speich of Rosemount, MN, Barbara Speich of Great Bend, KS, Paul Speich of Wausau, WI and Karen (Gary) Russell of Peterson, MN, four grandchildren Nicole Russell, Anthony Russell, Bryan Speich and Marissa Speich. She was preceded in death by her parents.Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Schumacher Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, 111 S. Oak St., La Crescent. Pastor Donald Iliff will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred to Mayo Clinic Hospice or a charity of the donors choice.
