Harvey Eugene Shisler, 74, passed away peacefully with his wife of 53 years by his side on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Harvey was born on September 2, 1939 in La Crosse to Harry and Ida Mae (Servais) Shisler. He graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1958 and was a member of the National Guard and the Army Reserves. On September 3, 1960 he married Lorraine Marie Forer at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in La Crosse. Harvey was employed at Swifts, and then with the La Crosse County Highway Department for 35 years, retiring in 2000.

Harvey was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He shared many of his passions in life with his family including raising and racing pigeons, raising various animals, camping, hunting, fishing, watching his son race, and gardening. During the summer, while camping in the Dells, Harvey enjoyed cruising the campground on his golf cart. His pride and joy was seeing and spending time with his four grandchildren. His strength and love of life will live on in all those who knew him.

Harvey is survived by his wife Lorraine, son Rick (Robyn) and daughter Patricia (Jose), four grandchildren, Jordan, Alyssa, Jose Harvey, and Alexa, one brother Ernie, as well as a large extended family and friends who cared for and loved him deeply. Harvey will be greeted in heaven by his parents, two brothers, Harold Buddy Shisler and Art (Judy) Shisler, two sisters, Donna (Dick) Stinson and Nita (Sherman) Witte, and a sister-in-law, Janice Shisler. Also greeting him in heaven is his best friend LaVerne Stegen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Rev. Rick Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation services of La Crosse on Thursday from 5:00 7:00 PM and at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
