George B. Schumacher, 89 of Rural Houston, Minn. was born on May 6, 1925, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to John and Mary (Wolter) Schumacher. Shortly thereafter he was born into Gods kingdom through the waters of Baptism. He confessed his faith before Immanuel Lutheran congregation on his confirmation day, August 14, 1938. On May 24, 2014, he experienced what he described as the day we live for when he was born to eternal life at the Golden Living Center in La Crescent, Minnesota. After serving in the Army at the end of WWII, George bought the farm that would be his home for the next 65 years. On November 5, 1949, he married Lavonne Reetz at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Nodine. George and Lavonne farmed until his retirement in 1991, when his youngest son Paul took over the family farm. Lavonne preceded him in death on December 30, 2000. He was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served in various leadership positions. He is survived by three sons: John (Sharon) of Houston; Raymond (Beth) of Johnson Creek, WI; and Paul (Jen) of Houston; nine grandchildren: Tanya (Josh) Rasmussen, Tami (Ryan) Bauer, T.J. (Bekah) Schumacher, Toni (Jeremy) Sharpe; Amy (Skot) Wiedmann, Lisa (Chris) Wentzell, Tyler (Brianna) Schumacher, Kerry (Matt) Schoemann; and Shane Schumacher; 11 great-grandsons: Logan, Brayden, and Easton Rasmussen; Jeremy, Cole, and Devon Bauer; Isaiah Schumacher; Boaz and Grant Wiedmann; Milo and Leo Schumacher; and one great-granddaughter, Emmalin Wentzell. He is further survived by his brother Edwin (Arlene) Schumacher of rural Houston and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Walter, and six sisters: Martha, Matilda Dorothy, Pauline, Agnes, Marie, and Adelia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at South Ridge Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Sheppard officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday evening from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent; 111 South Oak Street, and at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10:00 until the time of service. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
