Photo attached Donna Mae Hammes, 65 of Barre Mills, Wis., passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Friday, May 23, 2014. She was born in La Crosse, Wis. on March 6, 1949 to Myrel and Angie (Lehman) Schiltz. She married Thomas L. Hammes in La Crosse on June 6, 1970. Faith, family and friends were the central focus of Donnas life and she had been a longtime member of St. Leo The Great Catholic Church in West Salem Wis. She loved to play cards with her family and friends and read to her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother whos greatest treasure was her family. Donna enjoyed volunteering for causes that were dear to her heart. The sanctity of life was a core tenant of her faith. In addition to her husband Tom of Barre Mills, she is survived by one daughter Karla (Shane) Lawrence of Onalaska, one son Matthew (Sara) Hammes of La Crosse, her siblings; Darlene (Jim) Verdick of Bettendorf, IA, Carol (Ervin) Banse of La Crescent, Minn., Ron (Donna) Schiltz of Whitewater, Wis., Sandy (David) Nelson of La Crosse, David (Sandy) Schiltz of Winona, Minn., Alan Schiltz of Winona, Margie (Don) Ferring of Caledonia, Mark (Karen) Schiltz of Caledonia, three grandchildren, Zavier, Zayda, Evalyn; her mother Angie of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by her father. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at St. Leos Catholic Church in West Salem. Rev. Robert Hegenbarth will officiate. Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family Tuesday evening from 5-7 P.M. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel; 200 West Ave. South. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will also be held at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
