Ronald J. Simon, 70 of Onalaska, Wis. and formerly of La Crescent, Minn. Lanesboro, Minn., La Crosse, Wis. and Milwaukee, Wis. died peacefully at his home in Onalaska on Friday, May 23, 2014 with his wife at his side. He was born on May 12, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wis. to Rudolph Rudy and Margaret (Reith) Simon, Ron graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee in 1962. He enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, crossword puzzles, road trips & spending time with his grandchildren. Everyone enjoyed Rons company, his laugh and his sense of humor. Ron married Louise Wiedel in West Allis, Wis. on May 22, 1965. They made their home in Milwaukee & Germantown, Wis. where Ron spent much time with family and friends. He worked for Seaboard Finance and First Wisconsin Bank (US Bank) in Milwaukee. They uprooted to La Crosse in 1980 where Ron accepted a position at Doerflingers. When Doerflingers closed its doors, Ron also explored other employment by working for Walt Hammond Buick and Catholic Charities of La Crosse. In 1998, Ron and Louise owned and operated the Sojourner Caf in Lanesboro, Minn. This was a place Ron loved dearly and he was well known for his wonderful cooking-especially for his Saturday Night Prime Rib. In 2004, Ron retired from the restaurant business and moved to La Crescent, Minn. Ron worked his final years for Mayo Health Systems in La Crosse, WI.

In addition to his wife Louise, he is survived by his mother Margaret Simon, mother-in-law Antoinette Tonie Wiedel, sons Dean (Mary) Simon and David Simon (Special Friend Dawn Schumacher), grandchildren Magdalene (Fiance Jim Paton), Danyelle, Joshua, Gabriel & Emily Simon. Brothers-in-law Gregory (Cheryl) & Jeffrey (Kathy) Wiedel, nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Rudolph and Father-in-law LeRoy Wiedel, both sets of his grandparents & several aunts & uncles. **A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Church of the Crucifixion, 423 S 2thndth St, La Crescent MN. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Friends may call on the family Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home; 111 South Oak St.. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of services. Entombment with additional services will be in Brookfield, Wis. at the Wisconsin Memorial Park, Chapel of the Chimes at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Visitation at the chapel will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.

Rons family would like to say thank you to Dr. Randall Marks of Mayo Health Systems Rochester MN for the kindness, understanding & compassion he showed Ron during the six years of his illness. Also thank you to Gundersen Health Hospice team who helped get Ron & Louise through this last difficult month (especially Sandy, Terrie , Char and Pat) also Amy at La Crosse County Aging for making it possible for Ron to spend Mothers Day with his mom. The family would like to also thank Father Gregory Havel for all his kind words and comfort during Rons illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used to establish an educational fund for Rons grandchildren.
