Harold S Knutson

Harold Stanley Knutson, 88 of La Crescent, MN died on Wednesday June 25, 2014 at Claire Bridge Memory Care Center in La Crosse, WI. Harold was born January 24,1926 to Peter and Alma (Kjorlie) Knutson in Ettrick, WI. As a teenager Harold worked setting pins for a bowling alley and developed a life long love for bowling. He also worked as a farm hand. Harold then joined the army and served from 1945-1947 where he was stationed in Seattle, WA. Harold returned to La Crosse to work at Northern Engraving until he learned to weld, which led him to a job at Allis Chalmers until 1969. He then worked at PaCal Steel until he retired in 1989. In his retirement years, Harold delivered flowers for Apple Tree Flowers of La Crescent for 16 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for the La Crescent community. Harold was admired for being the yes man as he had a heart for serving others. He was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, served on the council, and was on the cemetery committee where Harold used his welding skills to build the gate and cross. Harold also served on the board at Bethany on Cass and was a member of the La Crescent American Legion. Harold loved bowling, golfing, dancing, playing cards with his friends, and fishing. He was a huge MN Twins and Vikings fan. He was also a great storyteller and always had a joke to share! Harold was married to Beatta Breyer in 1949 until her death in 1991. He is survived by his children Lucida (Mike) Meyer of Andover, MN and Brian (Lori) Knutson of Richmond, KY. Grandchildren Lindsey (Nick) Glasow, Jake Meyer, Levi and Paige Knutson and many nieces and nephews.

Harold married Mavis LaFleur in 1997. He is also survived by a step son Larry (Tracy) LaFleur of La Crosse, WI, and a step daughter-in-law MaryBeth LaFleur of Cataract, WI. Step Grandchildren Todd LaFleur, Amy LaFleur, Melissa (Garrett) Gordy, Robert LaFleur, Trevor (Christy) LaFleur, Trina Fredericks, Heather Rogers, Jamie Ness, and 14 Step Great Grandchildren. Harold was the youngest of 8 and was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Peter Knutson, his brothers and sisters Palmer Knutson, Lawrence (Elsie) Knutson, Esther (Cyril) Berg, Ruth (Hank) Kramer, Pearl (Irwin) Pasch, Adeline (Gerald) Dahl, and Helen (Orville) Fremstad along with a nephew Lawrence Wm. Knutson and two stepchildren Marilyn Ness and Steve LaFleur. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday June 30, 2014 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 21 N. Hill St., La Crescent, MN. Pastor Mike Woods will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prince of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Sunday from 4-6 PM and again on Monday from 10 AM until the time of service.
